M113
The M113 was first delivered in April of 2022 by the United States and has since gone on to become the most common western donated tracked APC in Ukrainian service. Available in large quantities throughout the Western aligned world the vehicle has been pledged to Ukraine in numbers approaching 2,000 overtime the M113 has gradually replaced the BMP-1 as one of the primary armored transports for mechanized battalions.
This has given a large number of Ukrainians with a wide variety of opinions on the vehicle to voice their perspectives. The job of the m113 is primarily referred to for evacuation and troop rotation work, however this vehicle is regularly called upon for assaulting actions, most notably in footage from the 3rd assault brigade. The vehicle’s protection reviews range from “better” than soviet models according to the 66th mechanized all the way to descriptions such as “suboptimal” from the 508th repair center, both of these opinions not necessarily being mutually exclusive. A common complaint from crews typically refers to the vehicle being incredibly loud, while not as loud as a soviet vehicle, and the return rollers having consistent issues resulting in needing replacements. The clear positives compared to soviet analogues are improved survivability and ergonomics. A crew from the 66th mechanized brigade claims that dismounting troops takes around 30 seconds while loading infantry takes a minute to a minute and a half.
