About Unit

Rubizh Brigade is a unit of the Ukrainian National Guard.

The brigade began its formation in October 2015 as the 4th Operational Brigade, where it began to seek recruits to serve a three-year contract as opposed to a single-year contract, to bring professionalism and commitment to its ranks to help the defense of the country in eastern Ukraine.

On June 2, 2016, the brigade received its official battle flag.

At the onset of the Russian full-scale invasion, the brigade was rapidly deployed to deal with Russian Airborne Troops assaulting Antonov Airport on the outskirts of the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, in Hostomel. The deployment of the brigade, alongside other nearby forces that coordinated the defense of the airport, prevented a swift capture of the capital in the early days of the invasion.

Subsequently, the brigade was redeployed to eastern Ukraine, participating in the defense of Severodonetsk, and later towards the city of Bakhmut, both of which saw intense fighting.

In January 2023, as part of the expansion of military units within the Ministry of Internal Affairs, including the Ukrainian National Guard, the unit became part of the Offensive Guard program, being granted the nickname ‘Rubizh‘.

In March 2025, the 2nd Khartia Corps of the Ukrainian National Guard was formed, and the Rubizh Brigade was assigned under the command of the corps, which was revealed in April of that year.

On December 30, 2025, the brigade changed its insignia to be in theme with units affiliated with the 1st Azov Corps and the Azov Brigade, indicating a possible shift to be assigned under the corps in the near future.

Currently, the brigade remains part of the 2nd Khartia Corps; however, it is temporarily assigned under the command of the 1st Azov Corps due to its deployment in the Dobropillia and Pokrovsk directions.

Insignia

The insignia depicts a pointed chevron, in theme with units affiliated with the Azov Movement in black and yellow colors. At its center, the insignia depicts a stylized Ukrainian Tryzub, the national symbol, in yellow, to convey its commitment and belonging to Ukraine. Additionally, it bears the nickname of the brigade at the peak of the chevron.
