About Unit

156th Mechanized Brigade is a unit of the Ukrainian Ground Forces.

The brigade was formed in April 2024, following an expansion within the Ukrainian Ground Forces. It was initially formed as an infantry brigade; however, in the Autumn of 2024, it was reformed as a mechanized brigade.

Following the issues within the 155th Mechanized Brigade, the Ukrainian General Staff launched an evaluation into the unit to ensure it was forming to the best of its capabilities and to provide comprehensive support in organization and preparation for combat operations.

In February 2025, Colonel Yuriy Hupalyuk took command of the brigade.

The unit was deployed in its entirety to the Sumy direction in mid-2025 to repel Russian forces in the area.

Insignia

The insignia features a shield with a blue border and a subdued green canvas. At the center of the insignia, it depicts a claw from a large beast animal, emphasizing power and defense.
