1st Squadron of International Legion is a linear unit of the International Legion of HUR MO.
It was formed at some point during 2022 on the basis of servicemen previously part of Foreign Service Group “Alpha”, one of the first consolidated units inside of the International Legion of the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine.
In 2023, the unit was sent to the heavily contested Ukrainian city of Bakhmut in Donetsk Oblast, in order to safeguard the crucial “Road of Life”, the supply line into the city. It held the flanks of the city, and would conduct several options, including reconnaissance, sniping, and assault missions.
In October 2024, the first company structure of the squadron came into existence, with Recruit Team being expanded into a company, becoming Recruit Company.
In January 2025, the unit began to consolidate several teams under a new structural system. It was announced on the r/UkraineForeignLegion subreddit that a unit known as Alpha Company, had began to recruit, with Murray Seabrook as its commander. It consisted of Vanguard Team, Ronin Team, and Barb Team.
In April 2025, it was discovered that Omega Team was subordinated to the squadron.
In July 2025, it was revealed during an interview with the squadron’s commander that the unit had adopted the nickname “Pirates”, derived from its commander’s callsign, “Pirate,” who previously served as the deputy commander of Foreign Service Group Alpha.
Insignia
The insignia is a rounded rectangular shield with a light grey border and a darker central field. Its centerpiece is a dark grey heart outlined in yellow, surmounted by a light grey plume. Additional elements include the squadron’s numerical designation, three stylized stars placed in opposing corners, and inscriptions denoting the squadron’s name and nickname.
