About Unit

115th Mechanized Brigade is a unit of the Ukrainian Ground Forces.

The brigade formed shortly after the full-scale Russian invasion from the first wave of mobilization. The brigade took part in the defense of Severodonetsk and Lysychansk and was deployed near Donetsk Airport in October 2022.

In April 2024, following a Russian breakthrough near the Ocheretyne settlement, several prominent Ukrainian social media accounts and bloggers—including the government-affiliated DeepState—spread a wave of hateful rhetoric and accusations against the 115th Mechanized Brigade.

However, brigade officials denied all allegations, stating that none of their units abandoned their positions.

In its article The Failed Defense of Ocheretyne Settlement, MilitaryLand reviewed hundreds of social media posts and analyzed daily reports, ultimately concluding that the 115th Mechanized Brigade was not responsible for the failed defense in the area.

Insignia

The brigade insignia features a chevron with a blue border and bold purple canvas. It contains two crossed sabres at the top of the insignia, below it is a Cossack cross associated with Ukrainian culture and history, with a flame burst appearing from each corner, where its motto “Born of Fire!” is referenced. The symbology appears in a bronze colour palette.
