UAT Gyurza
The UAT Gyurza-1 is the first in a line of domestic Ukrainian Mraps that entered service in the immediate aftermath of the full scale Russian invasion of 2022. The vehicle is said to have entered production in late 2022-2023 and its first crew interview by ArmyTv on Youtube was uploaded in October of 2024 when the second model of the vehicle would be announced in early 2025 and then a third model in the fall of 2025, highlighting a very rapid pace from the drawing boards towards production for this line of vehicle. Despite this haste the vehicle is described as very useful by members of the 100th Mechanized Brigade as well as members of the 225th Assault Regiment the latter having had theirs in service for more than a year by the time their interview was uploaded to Youtube on January 7th, 2026. Based on the Dodge Ram 5500 chassis and a 6.7 liter diesel engine the vehicle incorporates STANAG level 2 protection to resist 7.62 fire and 6kg bombs, originally cited as a 9 ton vehicle, the vehicle jumps to a weight of 10.5-11 tons when given the addon armor protection necessary to survive in a drone saturated environment. The vehicle has a ballistic liner to resist fragmentation from entering the troop cabin as well as run flat tires to keep the vehicle moving after the puncturing of the tires.
Interestingly the vehicle is equipped with an M2 Browning heavy machine gun instead of the Soviet designed Dshk or NSVT further adding to the vehicle’s reliance on imported components from abroad. With a capacity for six dismounts in the rear of the vehicle and anecdotes of cramming 15 personnel in the vehicle it is clear the need for APCs strips their availability between the time the APC was designed in 2022 and the situation described in 2026.
