Lyut Assault Brigade is a Special Police Force brigade part of the Ukrainian National Police.
The brigade was created on January 13, 2023, on the basis of the Special Purpose Safari Regiment, the Tsunami Regiment, and the Luhansk-1 Battalion and joined the Offensive Guard initiative – a program under the Ministry of Internal Affairs to expand several units within the National Police and the National Guard to become more combat capable.
Later in 2023, the Myrotvorets Battalion, the Skif Battalion, and the Zakhid Battalion joined the brigade. At some point, the Zakhid Battalion left and joined the Skelya Brigade. In 2024, the Shtorm Battalion also joined the ranks of the brigade.
The unit has participated in some of the highest-profile and prominent battles throughout the full-scale invasion, including the battle of Bakhmut, the battle of Vovchansk, and more recently the battle of Toretsk where they were deployed to help stabilize the situation alongside other Ukrainian units.
On July 22, 2025, the commander of the brigade Colonel Maksym Kazban died in a traffic accident in the Donetsk region.
Insignia
The sleeve insignia is a heraldic shield divided into red and black fields, representing the colors of the OUN-UPA. The central element is a white eight-pointed star with a trident in the centre, symbolizing the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Above the shield, the inscription “United Assault Brigade Lyut” is displayed, emphasizing the brigade’s fighting spirit and determination.
