16th Army Corps is a combined arms unit of the Ukrainian Ground Forces.
The corps was formed in early 2025, alongside many other corps, as part of the ongoing initiative to reform the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
In June 2025, it was revealed that several units had presumably joined the corps, including the 3rd Heavy Mechanized, the 42nd Mechanized, the 57th Motorized, the 58th Motorized, the 92nd Assault, and the 113th Territorial Defense Brigades.
In mid-July 2025, Brigadier General Yevheniy Kurash was appointed as the commander of the corps. The corps was reported to take over the responsibilities that were previously handled by Tactical Group Kharkiv, much like the 20th Army Corps taking over responsibilities from Tactical Group Vuhledar.
In August 2025, it was noted that the corps was in fact not formed on the basis of the 92nd Assault Brigade. It was instead formed from existing, highly-experienced and battle-hardened officers from the brigade in order to make it a highly efficient and cohesive corps with a good officer corps.
It was also confirmed that the 154th Mechanized Brigade had joined the 16th Army Corps, and that the 22nd Mechanized, 42nd Mechanized, 58th Motorized, and 92nd Assault Brigades were in fact part of the 14th Army Corps, being formed in Kyiv and operating in Kharkiv Oblast.
In late September 2025, the 2nd International Legion joined the corps. In January 2026, the 2nd International Legion departed from the corps to form the 3rd Infantry Battalion of the 253rd Assault Regiment of the Ukrainian Assault Troops.
In February 2026, the corps was known to be temporarily assigned under the command of the Joint Forces Task Force, commanded by Mykhailo Drapatyi.
