About Unit

7th Reconnaissance Battalion is a unit of the Ukrainian Ground Forces. The unit was formed on February 28, 2022, as 7th Separate Rifle Battalion on the basis of Ivano-Frankivsk Recruiting Center and assigned under the command of 65th Mechanized Brigade. Most fighters were over 50 years old.

Just a month and a half after its formation, the battalion was deployed to Kharkiv Oblast, and in April 2023, the battalion took up positions in the Lyman direction.

In June 2024, the battalion commander Lieutenant Colonel Oleksandr Yurin stated that the unit is short of more than 50% fighers, mainly due to losses and no replenishment.

In February 2025, the battalion was redeployed to the Orikhiv front.

In August 2025, a reconnaissance battalion was formed on its basis – 7th Reconnaissance Battalion.
