Promotions and honorary titles assigned on the Day of Independence
Ukraine celebrates the 33rd anniversary of its independence and honors military units and commanders.
As the Ukrainian nation celebrates Independence Day today, it presents a great opportunity to honor military units, commanders, and distribute state awards and honorary titles. We’ve compiled a summary of all units that have received battle flags, honorary names, or awards, as well as the commanders of the Armed Forces of Ukraine who have been promoted to higher ranks based on the Presidential’s decrees released on president.gov.ua.
Combat Units
- 42nd Mechanized Brigade of the Ground Forces received its battle flag.
- 77th Airmobile Brigade of the Air Assault Forces received the honorary name Naddnipryanska (Dnieper land).
- 82nd Air Assault Brigade of the Air Assault Forces received the honorary name Bukovynska (based on a historical region of Bukovina).
- 148th Artillery Brigade of the Air Assault Forces received the honorary name Zhytomyrska (Zhytomyr Oblast).
- 103rd Territorial Defense Brigade of the Territorial Defense Forces received the honorary name Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytskyi (named after).
- 16th Artillery Brigade of the National Guard received its battle flag.
- 17th Brigade of the National Guard received the honorary name Poltavska (Poltava Oblast).
- 35th Regiment of the National Guard received the honorary name Sumsky (Sumy Oblast).
- 40th Tactical Aviation Brigade of the Air Force received the honorary name Ghost of Kyiv.
The following units received For Courage and Bravery honorary award for courage and heroism shown during the defense of Ukraine.
- 2nd National Guard’s Brigade, 3rd Assault Brigade, 58th Motorized Brigade, 77th Airmobile Brigade, 138th Radio Engineering Brigade, 148th Artillery Brigade, 199th Training Center
Commanders
- Col. Gen. Oleksandr Syrskyi, the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, has been promoted to a general.
- Maj. Gen. Anatoly Bargylevych, the Chief of General Staff, was promoted to Lieutenant General rank.
- Brig. Gen. Andriy Hnatov, the Commander of Joint Operations Forces, was promoted to Major General.
- Brig. Gen. Volodymyr Horbatyuk, the Deputy Chief of the General Staff, was promoted to Major General.
- Brig. Gen. Volodymyr Karpenk, the Commander of the Logistics Forces, was promoted to Major General.
- Brig. Gen. Oleksandr Komarenko, the Chief of the Main Operation Department of the General Staff, was promoted to Major General.
- Brig. Gen. Oleksandr Yakovts, the Head of the Administration of the State Special Transport Service, was promoted to Major Genera.
- Col. Oleh Holovash, Chief of the Office of the Head of the Security Service of Ukraine, was promoted to Brigadier General.
- Col. Andriy Zenoviovych, Head of the Main Investigative Department of the Security Service of Ukraine, was promoted to Brigadier General.
- Col. Oleh Luhovsky, Deputy Head of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine, was promoted to Brigadier General.
- Col. Ruslan Herasymchuk, Head of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Khmelnytskyi Oblast, was promoted to Police General.
- Col. Oleh Hryhorov, Head of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Luhansk Oblast, was promoted to Police General.
- Col. Andrii Danyk, Head of the State Service of Ukraine for Emergency Situations, was promoted to Major General.
- Col. Vitaliya Hryhorovych, First Deputy Head of the State Service of Ukraine for Emergency Situations, was promoted to Major General.
- Col. Vitaliy Matsak, Head of the internal and internal security department of the Administration of the State Border Service, was promoted to Brigadier General.
