3rd Assault Brigade Receives M1117 Vehicles

The 3rd Assault Brigade of the 3rd Army Corps, a unit formed by former Azov Battalion commander Andriy Biletsky, has received M1117 armored vehicles. The news was revealed in a recent post on the brigade’s social media, which showed at least one of the vehicles in service with the brigade’s Rifle Battalion.

This makes the brigade the third unit of Ukraine’s Ground Forces — and the third overall — to receive M1117s. Previously, the vehicles had been delivered to the 425th Assault Regiment “Skala” and the 154th Mechanized Brigade.

The M1117 is an armored security vehicle originally designed for the U.S. Army Military Police. The transfer of these vehicles to Ukraine was first announced in November 2022, with the condition that they required re-equipment before delivery. The first M1117s were spotted in Ukraine in March 2024, during training exercises with the 425th Assault Battalion “Skala.”

By September 2024, the M1117 had entered service with the newly formed 154th Mechanized Brigade.

It’d be correct to write “Skelia” instead of “Skala” as the unit itself corrected the russian spelling they initially used to the Ukrainian one (:
