Air Assault Forces form a second corps

The Ukrainian Air Assault Forces have formed a second army corps within their structure. A few days ago, rumors about the creation of the 8th Air Assault Corps reached us, and today they were confirmed by the Ukrainian recruiting portal, work.ua. We are the first to report about the formation.

The plan to establish the second corps within the Air Assault Forces structure, based on the 82nd Air Assault Brigade, has been known since February 2025, as reported by MilitaryLand. The new Army Corps is being led by Colonel Dmytro Voloshyn, the former commander of the 82nd Brigade. The corps has unveiled a new insignia featuring an eagle at the top, similar to that of the 101st Airborne Division. The insignia has been redrawn in high definition by our contributor davomme and was first published on our site.

Corps Structure

The 8th Air Assault Corps (8-й Десантно-Штурмовий Корпус) is composed of five brigades, including the elite 95th Air Assault Brigade. Additionally, a new support unit, the 88th Support Battalion, has been established within the corps.

Similar to both National Guard corps, the 8th Air Assault Corps lacks an artillery brigade and a separate tank unit. This gap is expected to be addressed in the near future, though it will not involve the formation of a full brigade.

7th Rapid Reaction Corps

Previously, all combat units of the Air Assault Forces were part of the 7th Rapid Response Corps. With five brigades now transferred to the 8th Air Assault Corps, the 7th Corps is left with the 25th Airborne Brigade, 77th Airmobile Brigade, 78th Air Assault Regiment, 79th Air Assault Brigade, and 81st Airmobile Brigade. As a result, the composition of the 7th Corps is significantly lighter compared to the 8th Corps.

The fate of the 148th Artillery Brigade, 132nd Reconnaissance Battalion, and 421st Battalion of Unmanned Systems is currently unclear. They may either operate independently under the direct command of the Air Assault Troops or be divided between the two corps.
