68th Jaeger Brigade becomes part of Air Assault Troops

The 68th Jaeger Brigade of the Ukrainian Ground Forces, previously part of the 9th Army Corps, has been transferred to the Air Assault Forces and will be reorganized into the 68th Airmobile Brigade. The development was first reported by Ukrainska Pravda and later confirmed by Suspilne.

The brigade is expected to be commanded by Semen Sykolov, who previously served as deputy commander of the 25th Airborne Brigade. The former commander of the 68th Brigade, Lt. Col. Serhiy Tretyak, who had led the unit for nearly two years, resigned following the announcement of the transfer. According to Ukrainska Pravda, he stated that “he is not a paratrooper.” Tretyak will continue to serve in one of the Ground Force’s army corps formations.

A source cited by Ukrainska Pravda also indicated that the 25th Airborne Brigade is undergoing internal changes. “The guys from the 25th are young, sharp, and have a lot of plans, but the mood in the brigade is not great. Several key personnel are already looking for positions to transfer to,” one source said.

According to Suspilne, the reorganized 68th Brigade will become part of the 8th Air Assault Corps.

About the brigade

68th Jaeger Brigade was established on March 6, 2022, composed of thousands of volunteers who were among the first to enlist following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. By March 23, the brigade’s soldiers were already engaging the enemy near the approaches to Vuhledar.
