The General Staff Appoints Army Corps Commanders

By decision of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi, and the Commander of the National Guard Oleksandr Pivnenko, 18 corps commanders have been appointed. These commanders will oversee specific frontline sectors and receive a designated permanent force composition. These are important and positive changes that, if implemented properly, could significantly enhance the combat effectiveness of the troops and improve commanders’ responsibility for their personnel and assigned tasks.

This was reported by Yuriy Butusov, the chief editor of Censor.NET, on his Facebook page.

Most corps will consist of five brigades, with one corps comprising seven brigades. A total of 13 corps are being established within the Ground Forces, two within the Air Assault Forces, one in the Marine Corps, and two in the National Guard. Some corps include inactive brigades or units that exist only on paper without actual personnel. It remains unknown what the goal is for these paper brigades. There are also rumors about two corps in the structure of Territorial Defense Forces. Hopefully, this will not happen, as TDF units should not be used as frontline formations.

Regarding the appointed commanders, the previous system of operational-tactical command groups and task forces is finally being phased out, as evidenced by the appointment of commanders such as Oleksandr Tarnavskyi, Serhiy Perets, Serhei Sirchenko and Oleksandr Bakulin to lead corps. Additionally, several newly appointed corps commanders have earned recognition through their leadership at the brigade level. Among them are Ruslan Shevchuk, Roman Darmogray, Vasyl Matiyiv, Dmytro Voloshyn, Andriy Biletsky, Denys Prokopenko, and Ihor Obolensky.

Based on the commanders named by Yuriy Butusov, we can determine which brigades will form corps. On February 4, 2025, we reported about transition of four brigades into corps. We also list the existing corps that are set to remain in place.

when did azov’s logo become yellow and black

Around June of last year, we assumed it was for media purposes, but they have begun printing patches and banners in this colour scheme too. The official Azov website also shows the insignias in black and yellow on their ‘About Us’ section.
