About Unit

8th Reconnaissance Battalion is a unit of the Ukrainian Air Assault Forces.

It was formed several days following the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine as the 8th Rifle Battalion in the Ukrainian Ground Forces.

Later, it was assigned to the command of the Ukrainian Air Assault Forces under the 78th Air Assault Regiment and redesignated as the 8th Air Assault Battalion.

In early 2026, the battalion was reformed into a reconnaissance battalion under the 8th Air Assault Corps.

Insignia

The insignia depicts a traditional chevron with a maroon field divided diagonally by a silver bend and enclosed by a silver border. The maroon represents the Air Assault Forces, while the silver symbolises purity, wisdom, and nobility. In the upper left is a stylised silver eagle head facing left, symbolising speed, strength, and readiness for combat, while also embodying the military dignity and spiritual strength of Bukovina. The silver bend is modelled after the NATO symbol for reconnaissance.
