About Unit

8th Air Assault Battalion is a unit of the Ukrainian Air Assault Forces.

It was formed several days following the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine as the 8th Rifle Battalion in the Ukrainian Ground Forces.

Later, it was assigned to the command of the Ukrainian Air Assault Forces under the 78th Air Assault Regiment and redesignated as the 8th Air Assault Battalion.

In early 2026, the battalion was reformed into a reconnaissance battalion under the 8th Air Assault Corps.

Insignia

The insignia consists of a chevron featuring a crimson red canvas and silver grey border, the colors of the Ukrainian Air Assault Troops. The central imagery contains a diagonal strape, being a homage to Western symbology designating a reconnaissance unit, alongside a stylized fleur-de-lis with a sabre in the bottom left, and a stylized eagle in the top right, reflecting the battalion’s command structure.
