The YPR-765 exists as an evolution of the venerable M113 and their story in Ukraine begins in 2022. The AIFV is a successor to the M113 that is roughly 3 tons heavier but manages to still be amphibious despite the increased weight and protection. While the STANAG ratings are no different than the M113, it is largely regarded as decently protected. It has seen extensive use in the Third Assault Brigade since the early years of the war as a tool for assault operations sporting up-armored gun shields to protect the gunner from the close range small arms fire the vehicle was expected to receive while performing its role. In 2024 YPR-765 APCs with remote weapon stations equipped with 40mm automatic grenade launchers were delivered from the Netherlands as well as a handful of Belgian AIFV-B-25s with 25mm oerlikon guns which immediately were almost immediately deployed to Kursk. The most common variant in Ukrainian service remains the open top armored personnel carrier that has been used extensively alongside the M113 as a battle taxi capable of assault missions. It shares a great deal with the M113 beyond appearance and some parts, but also with complaints about how loud the vehicle is in operation. The extensive use of this vehicle alongside the M113 has gone a long way into defining the armored transportation of the post 2022 Ukrainian military.
