Three Army Corps Officially Named and Revealed

The formation of three new Army Corps within the Ground Forces is currently underway.

For some time, we have been slowly reporting on the Ukrainian Command’s shift to establish additional corps to organize better and coordinate units on the frontline against the Russian invasion – replacing the existing hybrid system of Operational Tactical Groups, Tactical Groups, and Army Corps. This hybrid system has proven to be difficult to manage and inefficient when subordinating and commanding units on the frontline.

Recently, thanks to our contributors on our Discord server, we have observed the establishment of more Army Corps. We recently covered the establishment of the 3rd Army Corps on the basis of the 3rd Assault Brigade; with the commander being Andriy Biletskiy, as well as a corps being formed on the basis of the Khartia Brigade of the Ukrainian National Guard.

It has been discovered that the command is forming several new Army Corps units; these being – the 15th, 18th, and 20th Army Corps. Information on these formations is scarce, though it is known that two of them have received their insignia, and the first-mentioned is based in Rivne Oblast. There is no information currently regarding which units will be subordinated to them, or otherwise whom their commander may be.

The 15th and 20th Army Corps have each received a unique insignia, shown below. Our contributor, Davomme, redrew them in high definition, first released on MilitaryLand.

It is expected that the 16th, 17th, and 19th Army Corps will also be revealed in due time; as the process of forming new Army Corps has appeared to be taking longer than expected. This was also acknowledged by President Zelenskyy; stating that the process of forming corps needed to be sped up. It is also important to note that previously existing corps in the history of the Ukrainian Ground Forces, such as the 13th Army Corps, are unlikely to be raised up again. The Corps existed from 1999 to 2013; being reorganized into the currently well-known Operational Command “West” between 2013 and 2015.

We will continue to release updates regarding the formation of new Army Corps formations in the future, stay tuned.
