COMCORPS: Roman Darmohray

The ComCorps article series focuses on the commanders of recently formed army corps formations. Each article profiles the commander of a selected corps. Today, we will introduce you the commander of 18th Army Corps, Colonel Roman Darmohray. You can read our previous ComCorps article about Brigadier General Oleksandr Bakulin here.

About the Commander

Roman Darmohray was born in 1993 in Chernihiv Oblast, Ukraine. In 2015, he graduated from the National Academy of Ground Forces and began his service with the 72nd Mechanized Brigade as a platoon commander.

In 2017, he served as chief of staff of the 1st Mechanized Battalion of the 72nd Brigade and took part in the defense of Avdiivka and surrounding areas, including the Butivka mine and nearby outskirts. He later became the commander of the brigade’s 3rd Mechanized Battalion.

When Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Darmohray organized the defense of Pukhivka, Rozhivka, and Klynivka near Kyiv. The day before the invasion, anticipating a possible attack, he ordered a reconnaissance mission that later provided a key advantage to the 72nd Brigade as Russian forces advanced.

It was Darmohray’s battalion that, together with other Ukrainian units, ambushed the Russian tank column in Brovary on March 10, 2022.

For his actions in the defense of Kyiv, he was awarded the title Hero of Ukraine later in 2022.

In July 2023, he was appointed commander of the 10th Mountain Assault Brigade, leading the unit until his appointment as commander of the 18th Army Corps in 2025.
