The formation of the 3rd Army Corps is underway

The deputy commander of the 3rd Assault Brigade provided insights into the ongoing formation of the 3rd Army Corps.

On March 14, 2025, Andriy Biletsky announced the formation of the 3rd Army Corps, built around the 3rd Assault Brigade. However, he did not disclose further details regarding its composition or whether the brigade would continue operating as an independent entity.

Maksym Zhorin, deputy commander of the 3rd Assault Brigade, offered insight into the topic. In an interview with NV.ua, he shared details about the ongoing formation of the 3rd Army Corps.

According to Zhorin, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is currently working closely with the 3rd Army Corps leadership to finalize its formation. While there is a mutual understanding of the necessary steps, the complexity of the process requires time. He noted that the existing corps units within the Ground Forces—the 9th, 10th, and 11th Army Corps—operate inefficiently, relying on the outdated Soviet system, which offers no useful framework to expedite the process.

The newly formed corps, including the 3rd Army Corps, serve as a test case for the future structure of the Ukrainian Army. If the transition to the corps system proves successful, there are plans to expand it across the entire military. “We are now scaling from brigades to corps. If successful, this experience will be applied to the entire army. A great deal of work is underway, and many questions still need to be answered,” Zhorin stated.

A Force in the Making

The 3rd Army Corps is being formed around the 3rd Assault Brigade, meaning it is built upon its key personnel, experience, and operational framework. Once its leadership structure is fully established, additional combat brigades will be integrated into the corps. “The corps will not consist solely of the 3rd Assault Brigade but will also include other brigades that are already engaged in combat operations. While new units will be created, the corps will primarily rely on existing brigades,” Zhorin explained.

Based on his statements, it is almost certain that the 3rd Assault Brigade has not been restructured into the 3rd Army Corps. Instead, its key personnel have played a role in forming the corps, while the brigade itself remains a separate unit within it. In addition to the 3rd Assault Brigade, the corps is expected to include multiple infantry brigades—either mechanized or motorized—along with an artillery brigade, unmanned systems units, and engineering units. Given the dominance of drones on the battlefield and the shortage of helicopters, the corps is not expected to include Army Aviation units.

In addition to integrating existing brigades, new units will also be established within the 3rd Army Corps. One such unit is a separate regiment of unmanned systems, which is currently being formed within the corps. According to Zhorin and the regiment’s official website, this new unit is being developed based on the unmanned systems battalion of the 3rd Assault Brigade.

According to unconfirmed reports, the 3rd Army Corps may include brigades that have operated alongside the 3rd Assault Brigade on the Kupyansk-Lyman axis. Potential candidates could include the 44th, 60th, and 66th Mechanized Brigades, as well as the 3rd Tank Brigade. However, this speculation is based solely on current unit deployments, and the official composition of the corps remains unknown.

Why does this matter to us in the United States of America? Ukraine offers us absolutely nothing. We have paid them more than any other country in the world and we will never see a dime or anything back from it. So, if our taxes are helping them build an Army, again, what are we getting out of it?🤷‍♂️

Tristan

Europe altogether gave more money to Ukraine than the USA. Per capita, USA isn’t even in the top 10 donators.
In exchange for the mere 0.3% GDP you gave in 3 years, Ukraine destroyed America’s enemies more efficiently than the US army ever did.
If money is what matters to you, you sould be alarmed not by Ukraine but because US economy is currently being wrecked by the orange traitor.

For example: the M2 Bradley: The US send the version ODS (Operation Deseret Storm). So the US send Vehicles that were build and paid for in the 1980s, upgraded in the 1990s and replaced by the M2A3 in the 2000s. Those M2 Bradley ODS sat in storage for up to 20 years. That costs money and the US is scraping M2s, which also costs money. So by sending them to Ukraine, the US is saving… Read more »

This counts, with a few exceptions, for the entire aid. The US is sending old stuff, that they either don’t need anymore, or would have to spend money on refurbishing or scraping it. Sending it to Ukraine is the most cost effective way to handle it. In return, you get data of combat experiences and how they perform in a near-peer conflict. So you don’t have to pay for those lessons in blood.

Many Bradleys had dead batteries, leaking oil seals and problems with electronics, so Ukrainians had to overhaul them before they could be send into combat. That means that the US didn’t even spend the money on servicing these vehicles before they were send.

Well said Grant. In addition, Zelensky has no gratitude and Trump is too good to have given him a second chance. Most European leaders are playing tough. Let them save Ukraine.

go back Perm, Patrick.
Zelenskyy practically just thank you before every time he speaks with Allies. How many times must he say thank you? Must he kow tow\? Prostrate himself.

Patrick

Z has that despicable attitude like to whole world owes him and it’s never enough. With Trump, it doesn’t work. The era of free lunches is coming to an end. Z will have to GIVE to EARN continued US support.

Miles_Ignigena

What are you talking about? He is literally thanking the allies almost every day! He thanking the USA all the time. What do you want him to do? Fall on his knees and kiss Trumps shoes? You are sending stuff from storage, that you otherwise would have to spend money on refurbishing or scraping. If it’s new stuff, Ukraine is used as your testing ground!

In Poland, there is the Joint Analysis Training and Education Centre (JATEC). There ukrainian personnel is teaching NATO the lessons they learned from front-line experience. They payed for those lessons in blood and they are giving them to NATO.

feck off, Sasha. With our assistance, the Ukrainians have created a machine that destroys Russian military capacity which is one less opponent we have left…China.
If we just keep feeding them bullets and bombs, they’ll continue to decimate the Russians
