Khartia serves as basis for the new army corps

Khartia evolves from a volunteer unit to a corps in just three years.

Ihor Obolenskyi, commander of the Khartia Brigade of the National Guard, confirmed during a Radio Khartia broadcast on March 14, 2025, that a new corps is being formed based on his brigade. MilitaryLand had previously reported on Obolenskyi’s appointment to lead a corps, making this announcement unsurprising for our readers. The new corps will be composed of five brigades from the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

“Each brigade joining the corps brings its own successful experience in offensive and defensive operations. The command structure will be reformatted—we aim to build corps management as ‘Khartia 2.0.’ To achieve this, we need both those who will continue with us and new personnel from other brigades.”

Obolenskyi also emphasized that the National Guard commander supports his decisions, allowing the team to operate with great flexibility. Each brigade will make its own contribution, bringing valuable experience, including in leadership and management.

Khartia volunteer territorial defense unit was formed in Kharkiv as part of the 127th Territorial Defense Brigade in 2022. The unit took part in battles for Kharkiv and across the Kharkiv region. In the winter of 2022, it fought near Bakhmut. At the beginning of 2023, it was reorganized into the 13th Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine. In 2024, the brigade fought in the areas of Ocheretyne, the Serebrianske Forest, and northern Kharkiv region.
