About Unit

431st Unmanned Systems Battalion is a unit of the Ukrainian Ground Forces.

The unit was raised as a Territorial Defence Force formation to defend Kyiv oblast from the russian full scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

After the liberation of the Kyiv region by april, the unit headed east and fought for the defence of Soledar, Bakhmut, Andriivka in late 2022 and 2023. In the following summer fought for Robotyne, Vuhledar, and in 2024 for Pokrovsk and Kurakhove.

Over time, the “Wanderers”, called by the nickname of their commander, Illia Mashyna, have grown from a small infantry units to a specialized, high-tech battalion of unmanned systems, that joined the ranks of 411th Regiment of Unmanned Systems in early 2025. On June 1 of the same year, the battalion became the 431st Separate Battalion of Unmanned Systems, under the command of 9th Army Corps, operating in the Novopavlivka sector of the front.
