Command of the Air Assault Forces

Command of the Air Assault Forces is the administrative command body of the Ukrainian Air Assault Forces.

The unit was established in October 2012 as part of establishing a command body within the Air Assault Troops within the Ukrainian Armed Forces. It is intended to help improve command and coordination amongst the various Airborne, Air Assault, and Airmobile units under its jurisdiction.

Since its formation, the Command body has been, and still is, directly subordinate to the Ukrainian General Staff.

In 2016, the Ukrainian Air Assault Troops were reformed as a separate branch under the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and the unit was reformed to reflect these changes.

In November 2023, the first combined arms unit, namely the 7th Rapid Response Corps was introduced to improve the effectiveness and coordination of a rapid response unit under the Ukrainian Air Assault Forces; becoming the first corps within the branch.

Later in April 2025, the 8th Air Assault Corps was formed, becoming the second combined arms unit to come under the jurisdiction of the Command of the Air Assault Forces.

In May 2024, the 421st Unmanned Systems Battalion was formed and directly subordinated to the Command of the Air Assault Forces.

Insignia

The insignia depicts a traditional chevron with a maroon field and silver border. The maroon represents the Air Assault Forces, while the silver symbolizes purity, wisdom, and nobility. At its center is a silver parachute flanked by mirrored golden wings, symbolizing the airborne nature of the formation. Above it are five silver pips. Beneath it is a golden mace, representing authority and command, and a golden flaming sword crossing beneath the mace, symbolizing military courage and the willingness to fight and defend.
