About Unit

117th Heavy Mechanized Brigade is a unit of Ukrainian Ground Forces, created in February 2023 on the basis of 15th Separate Rifle Battalion and also with 54th Rifle Battalion.

At least one mechanized battalion of the brigade was trained in Czech Republic, while 6th Rifle Battalion and 28th Rifle Battalion later joined the brigade.

The brigade took part in 2023’s Ukrainian summer offensive in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Vitaly Popovich and into the 10th Army Corps.

In October 2024, the brigade received its battle flag and was reformed into the 117th Heavy Mechanized Brigade.
6th Rifle Battalion was reformed into the 1st Rifle Battalion and ceased to exist as a separate unit.

In december 2025 the brigade received the honorary award “For Courage and Bravery”, continuing to support 19th Army Corps in the defence of kostyantynivka.
