Infantry
6th Rifle Battalion is an infantry unit of the Ukrainian Ground Forces.
The battalion was formed in 2015 as a territorial defense unit and reassigned to the Reserve Corps in 2018. At the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion on March 1, 2022, it was fully mobilized under the Zaporizhzhia Territorial Recruitment Center.
It saw its first combat on April 1, 2022, in Rozdolne, Donetsk region, and later fought in Avdiivka May–December 2022. After regrouping, it carried out operations in Makiivka, Luhansk region Feb–Sept 2023, before being subordinated to the 117th Mechanized Brigade.
In 2024, the battalion fought near Vesele in Donetsk region and took part in operations toward Robotyne in Zaporizhzhia region.
At the end of 2024 the battalion was reformed into the 1st Rifle Battalion of 117th Heavy Mechanized Brigade and ceased to exist as a separate unit.
