Infantry
6th Rifle Battalion was an infantry unit of the Ukrainian Ground Forces.
The battalion was formed in 2015 as a territorial defense unit and reassigned to the Reserve Corps in 2018.
During the first days of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, by March first, the battalion was fully mobilized under the Zaporizhzhia Territorial Recruitment Center.
It saw its first combat on April 1, 2022, in Rozdolne, Donetsk region, and later fought in Avdiivka between May and December.
After regrouping at the end of the year, the battalion carried out operations in Makiivka of Luhansk region from February up to September of 2023, before being subordinated to the 117th Mechanized Brigade.
In 2024, the battalion fought near Vesele in Donetsk region and took part in operations toward Robotyne in Zaporizhzhia region.
At the end of 2024 the battalion was reformed into the 1st Rifle Battalion of 117th Heavy Mechanized Brigade and ceased to exist as a separate unit.
