108th Assault Battalion is a unit of the 59th Assault Brigade as part of the Ukrainian Unmanned Systems Forces.
It was initially formed as the 108th Mechanized Brigade in early 2024. Prior to this, the ‘Honor’ and ‘Ulf’ units departed from the 1st Assault Battalion ‘Da Vinci Wolves’ entirely. They would eventually go on to form the 108th Mechanized Battalion, which would then join the 59th Motorized Brigade.
In March 2025, following the 59th Motorized Brigade’s reformation into an assault unit in the Unmanned Systems Branch, the battalion was also reformed into an assault battalion, becoming the 108th Assault Battalion.
Captain
Known by the call sign “Filiya,” Serhiy Filimonov is a Kyiv-born officer who began his military service in 2014 as a volunteer in the Azov Battalion, fighting in Mariupol, Ilovaisk, and Maryinka. Wounded near Ilovaisk, he later commanded the Honor Company of the Da Vinci Wolves Battalion during the 2022 defense of Kyiv and the Kharkiv counteroffensive. In 2023, he was appointed deputy intelligence commander, and on February 6, 2024, became commander of the 108th Mechanized Battalion “Da Vinci Wolves” under the 59th Motorized Brigade. He led operations in the Pokrovsk sector in 2024 to 2025 and holds the rank of captain.
