About Unit

1st Territorial Defense Brigade is a unit of the Ukrainian Territorial Defense Forces, established in 2022. It was originally formed as the 1st Special Purpose Brigade of the Ground Forces, based on the Operational Tactical Group North.

The unit was created by officers who performed peacekeeping missions in Yugoslavia and Iraq, mainly from 95th Air Assault Brigade, and UNA-UNSO members from Vinnytsia and Rivne Oblasts. A company of foreigners, was also formed in the unit.

In 2024, the brigade was placed under the command of the Territorial Defense Forces and restructured as the 1st Territorial Defense Brigade. It took over responsibilities in Volyn Oblast, replacing the 100th Territorial Defense Brigade, which was reassigned to the command of the Ground Forces.

Insignia

The soldiers call their insignia the “Symbol of the Bohun Brotherhood.” At the center is a golden cross with a sun in the middle. On the sides are golden equilateral Cossack crosses — historical symbols of the Ukrainian military.
