About Unit

102nd Territorial Defense Brigade is a unit of the Ukrainian Territorial Defense Forces.

It was formed in January 2018 in Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast.

Following the beginning of the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the brigade was deployed to several areas of the frontline. This includes the 77th Territorial Defense Battalion, subordinated to the brigade at the time, defending the village of Krasnopillia near the city of Sloviansk in Donetsk Oblast, eastern Ukraine, throughout June 2022. That same month, the 79th Territorial Defense Battalion of the brigade also participated in combat near Dolyna.

Other elements of the brigade were simultaneously deployed to Zaporizhzhia Oblast to stop Russian forces advancing in southern Ukraine throughout the summer of the first year of the full-scale invasion. They defended the villages of Malynivka, Zelenyi Hai, and Chervone.

In August 2024, at the beginning of the Ukrainian incursion into Kursk Oblast, Russia, the 74th Territorial Defense Battalion, part of the brigade, participated in the operation.

102nd Territorial Defense Brigade is regarded as one of the most capable combat units of the Ukrainian Territorial Defense Forces.

Insignia

The insignia depicts a chevron, with a battlement design at the top of the chevron’s border in blue. The base of the chevron contains a white canvas. The central imagery of the insignia depicts a stylized crow with an angry expression, bearing a sword in its claws. Above the crow is a Tryzub variant.
