140th Special Purpose Center, also known as Special Operations Center North, is an elite unit within the Ukrainian Special Operations Forces and one of the most secretive special forces units. Established in 2007 from the 8th Special Purpose Regiment, the unit has played a crucial role in special operations. In June 2019, it earned NATO SOF certification and was invited to join the NATO Rapid Reaction Force.
Since 2022, units of the Center have participated in the defense and liberation of Kyiv region and have been involved in counteroffensive operations in Kharkiv region.
Insignia
The silver wolf’s head on Prince Sviatoslav the Brave’s double-banner in the emblem symbolizes not only the continuity of military traditions dating back to Sviatoslav and the Cossack era but also decisiveness, courage, and military expertise.
