Full name: 49th Separate Artillery Brigade
2022 – 2025
n/a
1500 - 5000 servicemen
With Fire and Iron
Field Artillery
49th Artillery Brigade was a unit of the Ukrainian Ground Forces.
The brigade was first formed in 2022; however only began to come to public light at the beginning of Spring 2023, most likely in anticipation of the upcoming Ukrainian offensive towards Melitopol in the summer of that year. It was formed entirely from Ukrainian servicemen who had trained abroad.
In the Summer of 2023, the Artillery Groups of the 116th, 117th, and 118th Mechanized Brigades were formed on the basis of artillery battalions pulled from the 49th Artillery Brigade, leading to the brigade’s de facto disbandment.
In 2024, the brigade was reactivated once again, receiving 2S22 Bohdana Howitzers. However, this formation was once again short-lived.
In March 2025, the 3rd Army Corps was formed on the basis of the 3rd Assault Brigade. This led to the need for a new artillery formation to be introduced at the corps level. The formation of this brigade suggested that the 49th Artillery Brigade was likely disbanded once again, backed up by their social channels also being inactive since the Summer of 2024.
Insignia
The insignia depicts a chevron with a yellow border and a red base, the colors of the Artillery Troops. The central imagery depicts two crossed cannons towards the peak of the insignia in yellow. Below it is a green rhombus cutout, with the imagery of the Operational Command North, which the brigade was previously subordinated to.
