About Unit

23rd Assault Regiment is a unit of the Ukrainian National Guard.

The unit was formed at some point in the latter half of 2022, where it would begin combat operations in September to October 2022, emerging on Telegram as a highly mobile reconnaissance strike unit utilizing Humvees and dismounting in front of Russian positions to conduct assaults.

At the beginning, the unit consisted of foreigners and ethnic Ukrainians alike, with a famous video emerging from a volunteer known by the alias “Nucking Futs Yuri”, where he conducted an assault on September 6th, 2022, playing bait to draw out Russian Forces and tanks in the Kherson direction.

It became known that the unit was under the structure of the then 59th Motorized Brigade of the Ukrainian Ground Forces, alongside Chosen Company – another famous formation within the brigade that consisted of foreigners.

During 2024, the unit left to join the ranks of the 47th Mechanized Brigade. It also began to transition to recruiting foreign volunteers from Spanish and Portuguese-speaking countries, including Colombia and Brazil.

On November 9, 2025, the group transferred from the ranks of the 47th Mechanized Brigade, alongside some personnel of the brigade, to join the 4th Operational Battalion of the Khartia Brigade, otherwise known as Khartia International.

After joining the Khartia Brigade, the unit was redeployed to Kupyansk in Kharkiv Oblast, and under the joint command of the Joint Forces Task Force and the 2nd Khartia Corps, the unit performed extremely effectively in clearing, reconnaissance, and assault operations in the city.

In December 2025, the unit was expanded to form the basis of the headquarters of the 4th Operational Battalion and began to retrain the battalion.

On March 27, 2026, the battalion of the Khartia Brigade, formed the basis of the newly formed 23rd Assault Regiment as part of the 2nd Khartia Corps.
