About Unit

Operational Command East is a military district and operational unit of the Ukrainian Ground Forces. Its area of responsibility includes the regions of Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Luhansk, and Kharkiv. The unit was established in 2015 in response to Russian aggression in the Donbas region. Prior to its formation, Ukraine did not have dedicated military coverage in the eastern direction.

Viktor Nikolyuk

He graduated from the Kharkiv Tank School and the National Defense University, serving as chief of staff of the 93rd Mechanized Brigade and later commander of the 92nd Mechanized Brigade. In 2015, he was accused but denied involvement in an attack on a mobile anti-smuggling group and filed a lawsuit to clear his name.In 2021 was appointed commander of Operational Command North and played a key role in defending Chernihiv Oblast following the full-scale invasion of 2022.
