About Unit

46th Assault Battalion Donbas was a unit of the Ukrainian Ground Forces, formed in 2015 as 46th Special Purpose Battalion Donbas-Ukraine. The unit was formed by volunteers of the famous Donbas Battalion, who wished to serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine instead of the National Guard, where the original battalion was subordinated.

In 2018, the battalion was subordinated to the 54th Mechanized Brigade, and in 2019, the unit was reformed into an assault battalion and received an honorary title, Donbas.

In November/December 2022, the battalion ceased to exist as a separate unit and became the 3rd Mechanized Battalion of 54th Mechanized Brigade.
