Formed as the resistance movement “South” by veterans of the Ukrainian Volunteer Army in February 2022, the unit fought in Mykolaiv and Kherson Oblasts. After the liberation of Kherson, parts of the unit were integrated into the 28th Mechanized Brigade as the Separate Detachment South. In 2023, the commander, Serhii Ilnytskyi, was killed near Bakhmut.
