Further Details Surface on the 17th Army Corps

New details continue to emerge about the 17th Army Corps (17-й армійський корпус). On July 4, MilitaryLand reported that three brigades had joined the formation. Just a day later, it was revealed that an additional two brigades and one battalion have also been assigned under the command of the 17th Army Corps.

Today, MilitaryLand obtained a gift certificate issued by the command of the 17th Army Corps. According to the text on the certificate, the corps has been designated military unit number A5150 and is commanded by Colonel Volodymyr Silenko. Interestingly, the 30th Mechanized Brigade, which he commanded prior to his appointment as corps commander, does not appear to have joined the corps.

The commander

Colonel Volodymyr Silenko, callsign Samara, served in the Ukrainian Armed Forces from 1985 until 2005. In 2014, following Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, he returned to active duty. Over the years, he has held several key positions, including deputy commander of the 92nd Mechanized Brigade (now the 92nd Assault Brigade), chief of staff of both the 93rd Mechanized Brigade and the 71st Jaeger Brigade. In February 2023, he was appointed commander of the 30th Mechanized Brigade. As MilitaryLand reported, Silenko was dismissed from this position on April 24, 2025, amid speculation that he could become a corps commander. This has now been confirmed.

Two units join the corps

According to the 17th Army Corps’ social media pages, the 411th Regiment of Unmanned Systems has now joined the corps, becoming its second unmanned systems unit. This was confirmed by footage published from the regiment’s 3rd Battalion. Formerly known as the 411th Battalion of Unmanned Systems, the unit announced in December 2024 that it was expanding to a regiment, presumably in preparation for this integration.

The second unit to join the 17th Army Corps is the 118th Mechanized Brigade, which has now left its previous formation under the 10th Army Corps. In 2023, the 118th Brigade was one of the corps’ core units and took part in Ukraine’s southern offensive alongside the 116th and 117th Mechanized Brigades.

Yesterday, thanks to a gift certificate obtained from the 21st Army Corps, MilitaryLand was the first to reveal initial details about the formation.
