116th Mechanized Brigade is a unit of the Ukrainian Ground Forces, formed on February 15, 2023, on the basis of the 4th Rifle Battalion. The brigade was established alongside the 117th and 118th Mechanized Brigades under the 10th Army Corps in preparation for the Ukrainian summer offensive in the south.
Mechanized elements of the brigade underwent training in Poland, while tank and rear units were trained in Ukraine. The brigade’s artillery component was formed with personnel and equipment assigned from the 49th Artillery Brigade.
During the summer 2023 offensive, the 116th Mechanized Brigade operated on the Robotyne axis, where it sustained heavy casualties. Reports indicate that some companies were rendered combat ineffective within minutes during intense engagements.
In late 2023, elements of the brigade were redeployed to the Avdiivka sector and later to the Marinka area. In June 2024, components of the brigade took part in defensive operations in Vovchansk.
Despite earlier losses, part of the brigade was subsequently deployed to reinforce Ukrainian positions in Kursk in 2025.
