About Unit

Harmash Brigade is a unit of the Ukrainian National Guard.

The brigade was formed on the basis of the 59th Battalion of the Ukrainian National Guard, which was formed following the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

In February 2026, the brigade, now known as the 8th Artillery Brigade “Harmash” was formed on its basis, and now serves as the dedicated artillery formation of the 1st Azov Corps of the Ukrainian National Guard.

This would become one of the two new artillery formations to be established within the branch, alongside the Hrehit Brigade, subordinated to the 2nd Khartia Corps.

The unit has taken elements from the Artillery Group of the Azov Brigade, as well as other personnel from units such as the Chervona Kalyna Brigade, which used to have two artillery battalions, to help bolster its ranks.

Andriy Kovrak, the commander of the Artillery Group of the Azov Brigade, was assigned as the commander of the brigade in February 2026.

It is currently still undergoing the process of formation.

Insignia

The insignia is a pointed chevron, in theme with the symbolism throughout the corps, and its core formation, the Azov Brigade. Its central imagery depicts a lightning bolt transitioning into a star at the bottom, symbolising its quick strike capabilities, in black and yellow colors. Its peak contains the nickname of the unit in Cyrillic writing.
