About Unit

1st Medical Battalion is a unit of the Ukrainian Ground Forces and is attached to the International Legion for the Defense of Ukraine.

The battalion was formed as the Medical Service of the International Legion and was attached predominantly to the 1st International Legion.

On February 5, 2025, the unit was expanded into a full-on separate battalion, becoming the 1st Separate Medical Battalion, considering the realities of war and the professionalism of medics and military personnel gained during combat operations in the Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, and Kharkiv Oblasts.

The unit is predominantly composed of ethnic Ukrainians.
