About Unit

62nd Mechanized Brigade was a mechanized unit of the Ground Forces, originally formed in December 2000 from the 119th Training Center in Berdychiv, Zhytomyr Oblast. Following army reforms in 2004, the brigade was disbanded, with its artillery group becoming the foundation for the first battalion of the 26th Artillery Brigade.

In response to the Russian invasion of Donbas in 2014, the 62nd Mechanized Brigade was reestablished and reached full strength by 2015. By July 2017, the unit was nearing completion of its formation. NATO observers present during exercises praised the professionalism and experience of the brigade’s servicemen. However, for unknown reasons, the brigade was later demobilized and existed only on paper.

With the threat of a renewed Russian invasion in January 2022, the brigade was reactivated alongside other 60-series brigades, though its progress lagged behind other reserve units. In late 2022, elements of the brigade were deployed to Bakhmut. Due to heavy casualties sustained during intense fighting there, the brigade was never fully reformed, and its soldiers were reassigned to other units.

As of 2023, the 62nd Mechanized Brigade has been disbanded.
