50th Mechanized Brigade is a unit of the Ukrainian Ground Forces.
The unit began forming in May 2026 in response to rising tensions along Ukraine’s northern border with Belarus.
Taras Chmut, a former marine, the director of Come Back Alive Foundation, and the founder of Militarnyi, refused to assist in aiding the newly forming mechanized brigades due to the logistical challenges of the project put forward by both Commander in Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi, as well as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The brigade is known to be forming alongside the 167th Mechanized Brigade of the Ukrainian Ground Forces.
As of June 2026, the unit is known to be pulling personnel from experienced, combat-hardened brigades such as the 93rd Mechanized Brigade, and is struggling with logistics to sustain itself.
