On February 24, 2022, the brigade was stationed in Mariupol and was tasked with the defense of the city.

On May 20, 2022, the remnants of the brigade surrendered to Russians in Azovstal.

In January 2023, Azov Regiment was reformed into 12th Brigade Azov and 12th Brigade of Operational Assignment cease to exist.
