23rd Reconnaissance Battalion is a unit of the Ukrainian Ground Forces. It was formed on February 26, 2022 as the 23rd Rifle Battalion.
On the morning of February 24, 2022, right after Russia’s full-scale invasion and the declaration of martial law, volunteers quickly joined its ranks.
By August 2023, the battalion was fighting in Lyman direction as part of the 63rd Mechanized Brigade.
In September 2024, it was reassigned to the Kupyansk region under the 116th Mechanized Brigade. While deployed to the Kupyansk region the battalion suffered significant losses and in December, 2024 the battalion was withdrawn for recovery.
In February, 2025, the battalion deployed again, this time to the Orikhiv front, where it was assigned to the 118th Mechanized Brigade.
In August 2025, a reconnaissance battalion was formed on its basis.
