A Second Assault Regiment Equipped with Australian Abrams Tanks

The 1st Assault Regiment has received an unspecified number of Australian-supplied M1 Abrams tanks. This was revealed through footage published on the regiment’s official social media accounts.
The unit is the second confirmed formation to operate Australian Abrams tanks. The first was the 425th Assault Regiment, which was revealed in December 2025 after one of the vehicles was lost during a counterattack near Pokrovsk.
The allocation of M1 Abrams tanks to another assault regiment highlights a continued pattern in equipment distribution. Both units are part of the Assault Forces formations closely associated with Commander-in-Chief General Oleksandr Syrskyi.
The transfer of modern Western armor to these formations indicates that assault units remain a priority in terms of equipment supply, while other units continue to face shortages.
MilitaryLand has previously written about a noticeable shift within the Defense Forces since General Oleksandr Syrskyi assumed leadership, in which loyalty has taken priority. Units that raise concerns or question orders—particularly when doing so to preserve the lives of their soldiers—are often met with punitive measures. In many cases, this begins with an internal audit of the brigade and ends with the dismissal of its commander.
