5th Battalion is a reserve unit of Ukrainian Volunteer Army, originally formed on July 17, 2014, as 5th Battalion of Ukrainian Volunteer Corps (DUK). In 2015, they left the structure of the DUK and joined the newly founded Ukrainian Volunteer Army.
In 2018, Ukrainian Volunteer Army reached an agreement with the Ukrainian Army and withdrew all its forces from the front.
On February 24, 2022, the battalion returned to combat duty and participated in the defense of Kyiv. After the liberation of Kyiv Oblast, the battalion become a reserve unit.
