About Unit

Tavr Battalion is a volunteer battalion of the Tsunami Assault Regiment.

It was created on the basis of the Mykolaiv Battalion, which was merged with the Kherson unit, thus creating the Tavr Assault Battalion. The unit is called Tavr because of Tavria being the ancient name for the Crimean peninsula. The unit has been actively engaged in key operations across southern and eastern Ukraine, including the defense of Mykolaiv, the Kherson counteroffensive, and the battles for Bakhmut and Vovchansk.

In 2023, the unit was assigned under the command of the Tsunami Regiment, Lyut Assault Brigade.

Lieutenant Colonel

Oleksandr Mkhitaryan

Known by the callsign “Bzholar”, he has been fighting since 2014. Initially, he joined the Mykolaiv police volunteer battalion and performed combat operations in Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts. He eventually became the commander of the newly formed Tavr Battalion, which has been actively engaged in key operations across southern and eastern Ukraine, including the defense of Mykolaiv, the Kherson counteroffensive, and the battles for Bakhmut and Vovchansk.
