Tuman Special Purpose Detachment

Tuman Special Purpose Detachment is a unit of the Ukrainian National Guard.

It was originally formed at some point after the full-scale invasion, following the release of Azov Regiment fighters from captivity in September 2022. It was formed as part of the Sniper Company of the Azov Brigade under the name “Gladius Ultor”, which cooperated heavily with the Mortem Sumus Squad.

The Gladius Ultor Sniper unit carried out operations, inflicting heavy casualties upon Russian forces in the Kreminna direction, predominantly in the Serebryansky Forest, and also carried out operations in the Toretsk direction after the brigade was redeployed in mid to late 2024.

Following the creation of the 1st Azov Corps of the Ukrainian National Guard, formed on the basis of the Azov Brigade, the Gladius Ultor Sniper Unit presumably helped to form the basis of this new special purpose detachment.

Insignia

The insignia depicts a typical pointed chevron in theme with the brigade, with a predominantly grey base and black central features. The core of the insignia shows foggy clouds, with a moon nestled above, symbolizing precision and stealth. The peak of the chevron includes the inscriptions of the unit in Ukrainian, translating to Fog in English. At the bottom of the insignia is a rotated variant of the Idea of the Nation symbol, commonly associated with Ukrainian nationalism.
