Special Purpose Reconnaissance Detachment is a linear unit of the Azov Brigade.
The unit specializes in gathering intelligence and providing critical situational awareness for the brigade. They also conduct deep reconnaissance, enemy surveillance, terrain analysis, and often operate behind enemy lines.
The detachment is made up of several reconnaissance groups. It is predominantly composed of highly-experienced and competent veterans of the Azov Regiment and many other skilled servicemen who have joined the ranks of the Azov Brigade.
They have been involved in many of the brigade’s operations since their deployment and expansion in February 2023. They have participated in operations in Luhansk Oblast, including the Serebryansky Forest, the Terny Direction, and more recently, areas in southern Donetsk Oblast, including New York and Toretsk.
Insignia
The insignia of the detachment strays away from the traditional pointed chevron insignia of the brigade. It is instead a roundel featured in a subdued color palette of green and black. The central imagery features a four-pointed star in grey with a black sun in the bottom left half and three five-pointed stars in the top right. Surrounding these symbols is the detachment’s motto: “Ultima Ratio”, meaning “Last Resort” in English.
Here you can find the last known structure of the unit, including their insignia if available.
It includes the headquarters, management and commandant platoon.
