Tactical Group Athena is a unit of the International Legion of HUR MO
It was formed at some point throughout 2023, with the unit first publicly appearing on their official social channels in November of that year. It was immediately known to have been subordinated to the International Legion of the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine.
The unit was named after Athena, an ancient Greek goddess of war and wisdom. The name reflects the unit’s decision-making and combat capabilities on the battlefield.
Since its formation, the unit has been deployed across multiple directions of the Ukrainian frontline, seeing combat in Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, Kharkiv, and Sumy Oblasts. During 2023, the unit was active in the Zaporizhzhia direction.
In the second half of 2024, the unit fought alongside Rogue Team as part of the 2nd Squadron of the International Legion in the Kupyansk direction, Kharkiv Oblast. Later that same year, they’d see multiple combat operations in Toretsk, Donetsk Oblast, amidst heavy rural and urban fighting against Russian forces.
Numerous nationalities are known to be present amongst the ranks of the unit, including British, Belarusian, Ukrainian, and American volunteers.
Insignia
The insignia depicts a stylized hexagonal shield with slanted sides that rise upward into a defined peak. At its core is a stylized profile figure of Athena, the Greek goddess, wearing a crested helmet, rendered in a yellow tone. The figure is also characterized by a spread-owl-wing, a homage to the Main Intelligence Directorate, bearing a sword pointing to the right of the shield. Below this imagery are the inscriptions of the unit’s full name in yellow.
