About Unit

Borz Special Purpose Regiment is a unit of the International Legion of HUR MO.

The unit was founded in 1993 by Ruslan (Khamzat) Gelayev, a divisional general and a leading figure in the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria. The name of the regiment emphasises the Chechen fighting spirit and desire for freedom.

Initially, the unit was part of the Armed Forces of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria, functioning as an elite special purpose unit performing some of the most difficult operations during the war for the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria’s independence. In 1995, after Ruslan Gelayev was appointed commander of the Southwestern Front, Said-Magomed Chupalayev became the commander of the regiment.

Since the beginning of hostilities by the Russian Federation against Ukraine in 2014, the regiment’s fighters have actively defended Ukraine’s sovereignty, participating in the battles for Donetsk airport, and also carried out operations together with units of the Ukrainian Volunteer Corps, the paramilitary wing of the Right Sector political party.

Since the onset of the full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022, the regiment would later presumably transfer to the International Legion of HUR MO. Its main combat zones were the defense of Bucha, Irpin, Hostomel, Moshchun, and Brovary. It presumably

They also helped to liberate several settlements in Kharkiv Oblast and perform sabotage and reconnaissance operations in Donetsk Oblast.
