About Unit

Operation Task Force South is a temporary administrative command body of the Ukrainian Ground Forces.

It was formed on the basis of Operational Strategic Group Tavria, formed in November 2022, and would eventually disband in the months following the dismissal of Brigadier General Oleksandr Tarnavskyi in July 2024. It would eventually form the basis of what would become known as the Southern Defense Forces. It is tasked with defending the southern regions of Ukraine.

In 2025, it was reformed as the Operational Task Force South in theme with the wider reform of the Ukrainian Defense Forces, and a shift in operating frontline extensions across every Operational Command body.

It currently groups all units of the 30th Marine Corps as part of the Ukrainian Naval Forces under its command.

Insignia

The insignia shows a chevron dissected into four quadrants, the bottom left and top right being differing shades of green, and the top left and bottom right being differing shades of blue; both representing a mixture of land and sea operations undertaken by Ukrainian Marines. The core symbolism illustrate four crossed swords in silver grey.
