1st International Rifle Battalion

Rifle Battalion is a linear unit of the 3rd Assault Brigade.

The unit was formed at the beginning of 2025, with the brigade beginning to recruit foreign volunteers and regular Ukrainian mobilised and volunteer personnel.

It is not to be confused with the brigade’s original two linear rifle battalions formed around early 2024, which fought during the siege of Avdiivka, and were subsequently disbanded due to high casualties and to reinforce existing battalions.

In March 2025, the recruitment efforts for the battalion were in full swing, recruiting across various platforms and recruiting many foreign volunteers. It became known in May 2025 that the battalion’s English-speaking contingent was the 1st Rifle Company, the Portuguese-speaking contingent was the 2nd Rifle Company, and the Spanish-speaking unit was the 3rd Rifle Company.

Both foreigners and Ukrainians alike are mixed up in each of the brigade’s company’s.

Insignia

The insignia depicts a pointed chevron in black and grey tones. At its center, the patch features an arrow symbolizing the unit’s role as an assault formation, representing forward momentum and offensive action. Overlaying this is a reticle with a central dot, signifying precision and marksmanship, attributes typically associated with a dedicated rifle battalion.
